Educational Facility
The Drake University Law Library's purpose is to support the study, teaching and research needs of the faculty and students of the law school. The Library also strives to provide legal materials necessary to support the research activities of the University community at large, the practicing bar and the general Iowa public.
To accomplish this enormous task it was necessary to build a new highly sophisticated facility. BKBM Engineers was retained to provide structural professional engineering services for this new law library. Services provided included analysis, design, preparation of design documents, review of structural submittals and construction observation.
In depth investigations and analyses were needed to properly construct the new library adjacent to the existing structure. The new library was built in 1992. This facility added more than 74,000 square feet of library and resource space with an approximate construction cost of $6.5 million.
