The 6,800 square foot interpretive center replaced an old house on Pike Island that was frequently flooded by the rising rivers. The architect chose earthy materials such as rough-cut Minnesota limestone, interior white pine, exterior cedar, and copper trim.
Primary functions within the pine and stone interior include an information desk, gift store, classroom, library, offices and public restrooms. Fort Snelling is a year-round park, offering everything from ski and hiking trails to educational seminars and community programs.
BKBM provided Structural, Electrical and Mechanical Professional engineering services. This facility consisted of wood frame structure with pre-engineered wood trusses.
